Wheadon Farm Park Playground – Salt Lake County, Utah

Wheadon Farm Park is a custom farm-themed destination playground in Salt Lake County that reflects the history of the Wheadon family farm. Rather than using a generic playground theme, the project turns local agricultural history into an interactive play environment.

Big T Recreation was selected to help design the playground, working with public stakeholders and the community to create a custom play space. The project includes a strong Cre8Play collaboration, with farm-inspired features such as a play barn, tractor, climbing haystack, hay derrick tire swing, crop circle swings, interactive farm sounds, and other custom details.

This project stands out as one of Big T's strongest examples of custom themed play: locally meaningful, highly visual, and built around a story children can physically explore.

Why This Playground Was a Good Fit

Wheadon Farm Park needed a playground that reflected the history and character of the site. This project was a strong fit because it helped Salt Lake County:

Standout Playground Features

Custom Farm-Themed Play

The playground uses farm imagery as the foundation for the play experience. Children move through a setting that feels like a playful interpretation of the site's agricultural past, rather than a generic theme dropped into the park.

Play Barn

The play barn creates a central themed structure and gives the playground a strong visual anchor. It supports imaginative play while tying directly to the farm story that defines the site.

Tractor and Stump-Pulling Play

The renovated Massey-Harris Model 101 tractor and stump-pulling features give children hands-on ways to engage with the farm theme. These elements make the playground feel interactive and grounded in the site's history.

Climbing Haystack

The climbing haystack adds physical challenge while staying true to the agricultural theme. It encourages children to climb, balance, and explore in a way that feels natural to the story of the park.

Hay Derrick Tire Swing and Crop Circle Swings
