Willow Pond Park is a beloved community destination in Murray, and this new playground was designed to feel like a natural extension of the park’s identity. With its fishing history, active sports amenities, and strong family use, the project called for more than a standard play structure. Big T Recreation helped deliver a custom playground experience that combines shaded play, signature equipment, sports-inspired elements, and themed details tied directly to the character of the site. The result is a memorable new playground installation that gives families a visually distinctive place to gather, explore, climb, and play—while reinforcing what makes Willow Pond Park unique.
Willow Pond Park’s new playground was designed to serve a busy community park with a strong identity already in place. With nearby sports amenities, a well-known fishing pond, and consistent family use, the project provided an opportunity to create a playground that feels specific to the site instead of interchangeable with any other park.
The completed playground brings together Playworld’s newest play experiences with custom fabricated elements that make the space stand out immediately. Shade structures help improve comfort and usability, while musical play, themed climbers, and discovery-based features create a layered experience for children of different ages.
This installation also reflects the broader story of the park. Baseball-inspired climbers connect to the surrounding athletic activity, while custom fishing-themed freestanding elements act as a direct nod to Willow Pond’s history and identity as a fishing destination. Together, those details help the playground feel rooted in place.
For a city park like Willow Pond, the playground needed to do more than provide basic recreation—it needed to:
One of the defining features of this project is the inclusion of three custom sports climbers with fabricated sports-themed details, along with a custom catcher’s mask climber. These pieces reinforce the baseball character of the park and give the playground a custom, one-of-a-kind quality.
To connect the playground to Willow Pond’s history, the design also includes a custom freestanding fishing reel and pole element. This playful detail helps make the playground feel connected to the larger story of the park rather than separate from it.
The addition of Playworld’s Mighty Descent slide gives the playground an unmistakable focal point. It brings strong visual impact while also delivering a high-value play experience that helps define the entire installation.
The project also features Playworld’s new PlayHills and Concerto musical play equipment, expanding the playground beyond traditional deck-and-post play. These elements add movement, sound, creativity, and a wider range of engagement opportunities throughout the site.
Younger visitors have their own reason to explore with a scavenger hunt element for littles, adding a discovery component that encourages repeat visits and imaginative interaction.
The playground is covered by shade structures and finished with poured-in-place rubber surfacing, combining comfort, accessibility, safety, and long-term performance in a way that supports daily public use.
What makes this project successful is not just the equipment selection—it’s how the entire playground responds to the park around it.
Rather than relying on a generic layout, the design uses custom theming, standout play products, shaded comfort, and durable surfacing to create a space that feels tied to Willow Pond Park specifically. Families get a playground that is fun and memorable, while the city gains a park amenity that strengthens the identity of the site.
This is the kind of project that helps a park stand out: thoughtful, location-driven, and built to serve the community for years to come.
